It's been a while since we did a CW but I passed by a gorgeous cover and had to put it up!

April Genevive Toucholke's books have always had very intriguing covers but this is my absolute favourite. I love the black. The font is gorgeous and stands out but also gives the cover the basis for all the little trinkets that are placed around it. Ah, I want to own it.

Congratulations to Revenge and the Wild for another great win. This weeks competition is A Study in Charlotte by Britanny Cavallaro.

2016 has some beautiful graphic covers and A Study in Charlotte is one of them. The use of blue and coral really works well on this cover. It is cute, simple and very attractive to the eye.

What an awesome Cover Wars we had last week! Revenge and the Wild by Michelle Modesto managed to almost pull a clean sweep. Can it do the same against Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan.  

I love the bright colours of Reign of Shadow. The purple hues are very nice on the eyes and its always great to see covers that play with the title typography. Reign of Shadows is very much and embodiment of a young forest while its competitor, Revenge and the Wild, is the mature forest with the autumn colours.

And Their Fractured Lights brilliant colours win another round. This time it's back against Revenge and the Wild by Michelle Modesto.

How about two covers on the opposite sides of the colour spectrum? Revenge and the Wild is subtle in comparison to its competitor but not any less captivating. The title typography is gorgeous and the burning feature was nicely integrated. I wonder if the bits of red are blood splatters... the intrigue :)

Hey guys, it's P.E.! I'm doing this week's edition, and the cover I've picked to go against Their Fractured Light is super gorgeous. If you've followed us for a while, you'll note that I'm someone that loves high contrast, minimalist or art deco-type designs. I'm really happy that both covers this week feature very clever, intense bursts of colour. 

Aren't the colours lovely? Their Fractured Light has this ultraviolet, or should I say, radioactive, vibe going on with the iridescent purple while Before & After is a gorgeous piece of art that goes really well with the simple title font. Both of these covers are near perfection, which should make this week's battle realllly tough.

And Their Fractures Light came out on top, just like its predecessors. This week it's facing The Impostor Queen by Sarah Fine.

Two very different covers. One is bright, romantic and interstellar while the other is more sobering. My favourite thing about The Imposter Queen is the title typography and style. The font is beautiful and the position is very well done as well. The imposing white over red works and the resulting contrast really make the cover for me.

A School for Unusual Girls has been doing quite well. This weeks competitor, Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman and Meghan Spooner, is the sequel to 2 very popular Cover Wars cover. I foresee a tough fight ahead.

At this point, we all saw this one coming. These Broken Stars and This Shattered World were both serious Cover Wars contenders in the past years and I doubt Their Fractured Light will end that tradition. Can I just say- this cover is ultraviolet! I think I love it. The colours used are not often seen on YA covers. The dress is also not the conventional type. A School for Unusual Girls has the beautiful classical dress down, though.

Another week of Cover Wars is back. This time it's Alex Flinn's first feature with her upcoming book Mirrored versing our reigning champ, A School for Unusual Girls.

I love the colours that Mirrored features on its cover. The gorgeous ginger hair is nicely contrasted against the blue and misty creek in the background. My favourite, and more of an inconspicuous addition to the cover, is the apple on a vine that is nicely interwoven with the title.

Both covers are exceptional, but it's up to you guys to vote for your favourite!

Cover Wars is back after suffering a bit of a sad turnout last week, still we have a champion. a Madness So Discreet managed to pull another win and is back to face the beautiful cover of Kathleen Baldwin's latest.

• I adore the subtle pastel colours. The gorgeous red hair and especially the flowy cursive font.

• The model's pose is so wonderfully done. She looks more stressed than scared. It's like she can't get away from something and the hands pulling her down embody that.

So it's been a while since we did a Cover Wars. The post took a backseat during the second semester of university but it's back now and we hope you guys are ready for a new batch of amazing 2015/2016 covers!

A Madness So Discreet by Mindy Mcginnis is back as the reigning champion against Storm by Amanda Sun.

Storm:

• My favourite thing is the constrast between the black and the green on the cover. It makes the title pop nicely. In comparison to the original covers of the series, I'm a little disappointed. I miss the old water paintings. This cover reminds me a lot of the old Apple commercials for iPods though, and I loved those.

A Madness So Discreet:

• Such a favourite. I love the beauty of the dress and the fair haired maiden versus the very creepy hands pulling her through the floor boards. Makes me want to check all the loose floorboards in my house for monsters.

This week's battle is called "attack of the books with really long titles" which is somewhat unfair to the second book, henceforth referred to as Discreet. In any case, beautiful covers again!

So pretty! Both of them are dramatic and magical. A Madness so Discreet is beautiful and creepy, like check out the hand grabbing her leg! And to be very honest, the fact that she is literally being pulled through wood scares me because there's that sharp piece of wood that could potentially stab her and... let's end that thought. The challenger, known as "Singular" (my typing is far from on point today), is seriously one of my fav combos, gold and midnight blue. It screams whimsical. Shall we go ahead and call Of Dreams and Rust the dragon-slayer? Two months into 2015, and only one cover had won: Song of Blood and Stone. At least, that was before Of Dreams and Rust got involved. This week, Romancing the Dark in the City of Light comes in!

First, these covers are soooo different. One is trippy and fun and modern, makes me think of clubs and being young and having fun. The other one is pure class; elegance, refined, and a subtle beauty. I'll let you guys guess which is which. In any case, both are stunners.

Yet again, Song of Blood and Stone has managed continue its reign. This week our favourite diverse cover is facing another of its own category, Of Dreams and Rust by Sarah Fine.

In contrast to last week's covers, these girls are quite similar. Both portray an ethnically diverse model looking off into the distance with their side profile shown to us. I love the red kimono on the model in Of Dream and Rust. It's plain but has great contrast with the model's hair and the background. Two gorgeous covers. Which is your favourite?

Song of Blood and Stone managed to hold on to it's throne as the competition becomes even more fierce. This week it's up against Leigh Bardugo's next book Six of Crows.

The two covers are quite the opposite in many aspects. While one focuses on bright colours like pinks and reds, the other is made up of shades and blues. However, both the covers meet in the title typography department. Although they are different, they resemble each other nicely. But, mostly they add character to the covers they were designed for.

Song of Blood and Stone has had many dominant victories, and last week wasn't one of them. In fact, the covers tied so I did the equivalent of a virtual coin flip where I went on random.org, assigned a number to each cover, and generated it. Song of Blood and Stone prevailed. Is its reign coming to an end? The Decaying Empire would sure like to test that. 

Colour, moody covers everywhere! The Decaying Empire takes the dark colours with splashes of orange, more like a destructive fire than a decaying one, i would say. Song of Blood and Stone promises a little more serenity with a calm pink and a sky full of possibilities.

Song of Blood and Stone has dominated thus far and for good reason. This week it's up against another formidable foe, Carrie Ryan's Daughter of Deep Silence.

Both are brilliant covers with fantastic use of space. Daughter of Deep Silence looks stunning with the depiction of a blue wave on the wall behind her. Song of Blood and Fire fills the space with a starry sky within a silhouette of a woman. Love them both.

Song of Blood and Stone is lethal. It has systematically destroyed every single one of its competitors and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. That doesn't stop The Girl at Midnight from giving this a go!

Purple vs. pink! Pretty swirls vs. more pretty swirls! Great font vs. great font! Only difference is, one of these covers has a person on it. Both covers feature the starts, and both are lots of fun. Which shall win?

Song of Blood and Stone is making a very early bid for the cover of 2015, because it has won every week of 2015 thus far. Zodiac is the next challenger!

These covers are both super gorgeous, and somewhat similar. It's the use of colour and the subtle design bits that really make both covers outstanding. The title is bold and distinctive, and there are lighter and the use of light versus dark colours is creative for both covers. Song of Blood and Stone does it as a silhouette, and Zodiac does it with a nice gradient mix. I wouldn't mind reading either of these, based on purely on the cover!

Song of Blood and Stone continues its fabulous run, destroying all other covers in its path. It's quite remarkable, but The Darkest Part of the Forest isn't shaking in its boots. These covers are ready to rummbllleee! (Sorry, it's late, I'm tired.)

The similarity has to be in the distinctive fonts. Song of Blood and Stone is elegant and sleek. The Darkest Part of the Forest has a classic vibe to it. The Darkest Part of the Forest draws attention to this font and the creepy herbs growing along with it, and that butterfly too. Song of Blood & Stone almost makes its font appear like it's glowing against the night sky, like some runaway wisps of the northern lights.

Welcome to 2015! A whole new year, a helluva lot of brilliant new covers. This week will begin with one of Mari's choices, Both of Me against Song of Blood & Stone!

Both covers have stars and an interesting vibe. Song of Blood and Stone brings on the deep pink with very swirly fonts, while Both of Me portrays mystery through its starry sky. In any case, Both covers are definitely pretty. But there is only one winner!
