The Weekly Progress: The Olympic Edition

The Weekly Progress is a type of wrap up post that happens every Sunday on The Sirenic Codex looking on the week that was.

Did you know that the Olympics have started? I'm an enormous fan of the Olympics, especially the winter games because Canada tends to do really well. Anyway, the advertisements have been pumping me up for weeks, and since summer there has been extensive news coverage of the men's hockey team. One of my favourite Canadian moments ever was Sidney Crosby's golden goal in 2010 which I can assure you, every single Canadian ever remembers clearly. I'm also a pretty big fan of figure skating, and actually, I'm an enormous fan of whatever sport gets Canada gold! So for the next two weeks, I will be glued to a screen cheering on Team Canada.

Now, on to book talk.

Books Read

I didn't like it. I wrote a review so you'll soon see why.

Mari's recommendation for me!

On The Blog

Monday we joined a new feature, Epic Recs

On Wednesday, Mari featured Little White Lies

Next, she reviewed These Broken Stars. Looks so good.

Have you noticed that most futuristic books consider the next thousand years at most? I wonder, why not think about the 4000s?

Overall, I think we had a pretty creative week, although I think we need to read way more so we can have more book talk.

The Week That Was

Not a particularly significant week. I started some new classes. Philosophy in particular seems pretty interesting, so I hope it goes well!

Song of the Week

I love this song. It's fun and beautiful, and I think it's going to be a huge hit. Check out Colors.

Enjoy the Olympics everyone! And have a great week!

  1. Is it sad I have never really liked the Olympics? I don't know what it is!! I do like the Opening Ceremonies though!

    1. I love it because of the narratives. I love seeing people that worked their lives get their one chance at glory, and then when they win, I love seeing how happy they are. I guess I romanticize them too much, but looking at pictures of people like Justine Dufour-Lapointe when she won gold, I can't be that far off.

    1. Epic Reads sounds like the best way of recommending something to Mari, and actually getting her to read it! I think I want to do it again next month, just because there's something special about reading a book that was picked just for you.

    1. I'm about halfway through, and I'm still feeling out the story. Hopefully, I'll like it! I think we're looking to bump our reviews for Epic Recs books, so there should be a review out by the end of the month. :)
