The Weekly Progress: Nothin' Much Edition

The Weekly Progress is a type of wrap up post that happens every Sunday on The Sirenic Codex looking on the week that was.

I wasn't around the blog very much last week, and to be honest I don't really remember much of last week except that I read a pretty awesome book. So let's just move on to that.

Books Read

What an amazing, incredible read. I adore this book. I got it from the library and I'm considering buying it to reread. This series is going to be huge.

Currently Reading

I've heard so many good things, so I'm super psyched for this one!

On the Blog

First I wrote about reading about tragedy, which is something I've never felt really comfortable with.

Next, I reviewed ACID, which I thought was pretty meh, but others seem to have enjoyed.

Then, Mari picked Played for WoW, which seems a little in the Perfect Chemistry mold.

Mari then kicked off a new series of posts (we're using the terms "series" very loosely because I haven't started mine yet) where we'll be looking at different relationships in YA. We started with family.

Next, Mari reviewed Poison Dance

The Week That Was

Not a very notable week, except that Red Rising was really good and I still can't get over that. I missed writing TWP last week because I went to a hockey game and saw my favourite team win 6-3, which was pretty awesome. Well, then they lost pretty miserably the next couple games, so I guess I'm back to normal.

Besides freaking out for a major accounting test, nothing really happened. This week is looking up though. First of all, GAME OF THRONES TONIGHT AHHH! I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch it live so I'm going to make sure to avoid Twitter. But I'm honestly so excited for Game of Thrones, or as I like to call it, The Best Show EVER.

Song of the Week

I listened to a lot of music this week, an insane amount of it new. It's actually strange because I have about five picks for Song of the Week. Festival season is coming, which means that everyone is creating new music and releasing it. Anyway, my pick is going to be Avicii. I don't give him the credit he deserves here, and I listened to this song and fell in love with it. It's a little different from what I usually pick because it has more of a string-ish focus. It sounds pretty organic, and it has no vocals unlike other Avicii songs so it probably won't be as popular, but the melodies are fantastic, imo. Definitely a moody, yet soothing song. Okay, here it is: Heart Upon My Sleeve!

  2. I actually haven't heard that much about Red Rising, for some reason... or maybe I've just been super-absent LOL. YAY, glad you're starting Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking trilogy! I LOVED IT. Hope you do too. Glad you got to see your hockey team win one ;) And ahhhh I love Avicii's "Heart Upon My Sleeve"! The violins are fabulous. (His whole True album is gold, really.)

    1. I didn't hear about it enough either but I should have because it is MIND BLOWINGLY AWESOME. Okay, I need to tone it down but I loved it so much and I really want it to get the hype it deserves.

I'm very excited about the Chaos Walking books! I decided to read more from him after More Than This. Plus, another friend kept reading them and I was so curious.

It's such a spectacular melody! I wonder if he used real violins or did it on FruityLoops. Either way, it sounds like a modern classic and I adore it. True really is a great album. It's full of so many great singles.

  3. I can't wait to see your review of Red Rising, I've heard mixed things about it, but I still think it sounds good :) So your positive thoughts might be enough to persuade me to buy it soon.

    1. I think it's incredible. It's full of action, and it has this real darkness to it that I enjoyed so much. I think it's just a really well thought out, well executed book. You probably won't see my review for a while (we have a long posting order) but if it sounds like your type of read, I think you'll enjoy it immensely.

Well, I hope you do. I certainly did.

  4. I've heard many good things about Red Rising, so I guess I really need to pick it up soon!
Hope you enjoy watching Game of Thrones! I watched the first season and loved it, but I've decided to binge watch the rest of the series before the sixth book comes out next year, since I won't be able to do a full re-read of all the books!

    1. It's so good! Enjoy! I don't plan on reading the GoT books until after the show is done. I enjoy the show and I don't want to be spoiled in any way :p
